Conclusions

 

Our learning curve while working with 360º technology was very steep because it was our first time using it. If you are a first-timer such as us, there are some tips that we would like to suggest:

​

  • Check all camera requirements beforehand. Different cameras will have different specificities;
     

  • There is no need for two people to perform the task. You may do so but it is not possible for the second person not to appear in the video, thus eliminating the possibility of a clean shot;
     

  • Do not use a regular tripod. The Mi Sphere Camera comes with a small tripod. Use it instead. If you place yourself directly below the tripod, it is very unlikely that you will be part of the image. In our videos, you merely see the person that was not carrying the tripod, which is why we strongly believe that the image of the person who will be performing the task will not appear in the video;
     

  • 360º videos are more useful in closed spaces, such as houses, museums, or other contexts in which there are four walls, a path and several stimuli. For open spaces such as the ones that we worked with, a mere 360º photograph or still-video looping will suffice;
     

  • The best thing about 360º videos and photographs is that you can see everything as if you were in that place yourself. There is no need for multiple shots and different angles. However, if you are working in a group and you are trying to shoot an open space with no place to hide, the people on the video will forever be part of it;
     

  • Be mindful that technology is ever-changing. Apps may disappear very quickly. For example, the app for the Mi Sphere Camera Kit used to be on the Apple store but not anymore, obliging us to use an Android smartphone instead;

  • Though you won’t need to edit the content of the video itself, you need to be mindful that you need to stitch the 360º video and enable all the VR options if you wish to upload it on YouTube or any other platform. That requires using programmes such as Adobe Premiere that are not free, most of the times.

Conclusões

 

A nossa curva de aprendizagem ao trabalhar com tecnologia 360º foi bastante acentuada porque foi a primeira vez que a utilizámos. Se são estreantes como nós, existem algumas dicas que gostaríamos de vos dar:

​

  • Verifiquem os requisitos da vossa câmara antes da gravação. Câmaras diferentes terão diferentes características e especificidades;

​

  • Não há necessidade que duas pessoas realizem a tarefa. Podem fazê-lo, mas não será possível que a segunda pessoa não esteja no vídeo, eliminando a possibilidade de um filme sem ruído;

​

  • Não usem um tripé normal. A Mi Sphere Camera Kit vem com um pequeno tripé que aconselhamos. Se se colocarem diretamente debaixo do tripé, é muito pouco provável que sejam parte da imagem. Nos nossos vídeos, conseguem ver apenas a pessoa que não estava a carregar o tripé, razão pela qual acreditamos que a imagem de quem estiver a filmar não irá aparecer no vídeo;

​

  • Vídeos 360º são mais úteis em espaços fechados, como casas, museus ou outros contextos dentro de quatro paredes, com um percurso e variados estímulos. Para espaços abertos como aqueles com os quais trabalhos, uma mera fotografia 360º é suficiente;

​

  • O melhor dos vídeos e fotografias 360º é que podem ver tudo como se estivessem mesmo no local. Não há necessidade de gravar múltiplas vezes e tentar ângulos diferentes. Contudo, se trabalharem em grupo e estiverem a tentar gravar um espaço aberto sem lugar para que se escondam, as pessoas presentes farão sempre parte do filme;

​

  • Tenham em consideração que a tecnologia está em constante evolução. As apps desaparecem rapidamente. Por exemplo, a aplicação para a Mi Sphere Camera Kit já esteve na loja da Apple e foi retirada, o que nos forçou a recorrer a um smartphone Android;

​

  • Apesar de não haver a necessidade de editar o conteúdo do vídeo, há que ter em mente que precisamos de realizar o stitching e ativar as funcionalidades de VR, no caso de querermos colocar o vídeo no YouTube ou outra plataforma semelhante. Tal requere programas como o Adobe Premiere que não são grátis, na maioria das vezes.
